What is 3D and 4D ultrasound?
3D ultrasound shows a picture of your baby in 3 dimensions, "4D" is when the 3D image is constantly updated showing you a moving 3D picture. This enables you to see baby as it is blinking, yawning or sucking fingers (depending on what your baby is doing at the time of the scan).

Is it safe?
Ultrasound has been used for many years with no reported side effects to mother or baby. 3D/4D ultrasound uses the same intensity sound waves used for conventional 2D ultrasound; computer software creates the 3D images. No radiation is used; sound waves are used to generate the pictures.

Do my other ultrasounds still need to be performed?
Yes! Sneak Peek Baby Imaging offer this service as a bonding experience for parents-to-be and your family. It is does not replace any diagnostic ultrasounds that may be required during your pregnancy. Our scans are performed preferably after you have had your morphology scan (usually around 19 weeks).

Can you tell the sex?
If your baby is co-operating and in a good position our sonographer will usually be able to determine the gender with a high degree of accuracy. If this is something you don't want to find out, let us know and that area can be avoided, keeping it a surprise for you!

When is the best time for a 3D/4D ultrasound?
The ideal time is between 24 and 32 weeks. In some cases this can be stretched up to 34 weeks but it may by then be difficult to achieve nice images due to the fetal position and amount of fluid around your baby. At around 24 weeks there is plenty of room for baby to move around so you may see a very active baby. We can usually get lovely facial views of baby at 30weeks depending on your baby's position. Large women we recommend after 28weeks and slim women should not leave it too late. Twin pregnancies should come at around 26 weeks.

Will I always get a beautiful picture?
Every mother and baby scan differently depending on your baby's position, the amount of fluid surrounding your baby, gestational age and the amount of tissue between the probe and your baby. We will always endeavour to achieve the highest quality images for you but cannot guarantee your pictures will look exactly like others that you have seen. If your baby is not co-operating we may ask you to go for a short walk or try a variety of positions to improve the pictures.

Do I need a referral?
This is an elective non-diagnostic ultrasound, so you will not need a referral from your doctor. Simply ring and make an appointment at your convenience, remember the best time to see your baby with 3D/4D is between 24 & 32 weeks.

Can I bring guests with me?
You are welcome to bring family and friends along to your ultrasound to share in this wonderful experience. A maximum of five adults can be accommodated and children are also welcome to see their siblings in a different way.

Can I come more than once?
Yes, some people like to come multiple times during their pregnancy to see how their baby has changed. Please ask us about our discount for return visits.

What are the payment options?
We accept cash, EFTPOS or credit card. Payment will be required on the day.

Can I claim anything back from Medicare or private health insurance?
